Pete
Peter Benfield is an exceptional guitarist. Also playing trumpet
and piano to concert standard, he's a horrifically talented fellow.
He doesn't say much, but enjoys a good ass-kicking competition with Mr Sear.
So far the scores are roughly even. He uses a black Ibanez RG---,
with Boss GT6 multi-fx adding to his already considerable ability to do astounding/humourous things
with his guitar. He also uses an 80W Marshall combo, which constantly feeds back at even low levels.
We like Pete, we think he's great.
Babs
Babs Field is vocally influenced by soul and blues, specifically Eva Cassidy and Alisha Keys at the moment. She also plays piano rather well.
Her favourite song is "Heard it Through the Grapevine" by the inimitable Marvin Gaye. She doesn't like our music much,
but does her best not to show it. Being rich and famous will hopefully change her mind. *Ahem*.
Babs uses her formidable natural talent and whatever microphone happens to be lying around. Babs certainly rocks our world.
Guy
Guy is a remarkably fluent and gifted drummer, as well as playing guitar and piano
in both his spare, and our practice time. At only 14 years old, he brings the band's average age back down to 17
and a bit, but quite frankly we're the better for it. Having given a new lease of life to 2002's foundering
drummerless Barbie, Guy has added both an extra layer of talent and of wonderful slang phrasing. Easy Geez, Guy rules the drums by quite some way.
Rob S
Rob (Sear) has sod all musical experience other than the
last 2.5 years of Barbie Ruined My Life. Emerging from his
background role as mic stand for 2000's Spawn of Ahab Rag Rock audition, and gradually
becoming part of the strange, gauzy, but definitely black fabric that is Barbie Ruined My Life,
he was present (as were Mssrs Wallace and Benfield) when the "new" name was found and stuck to all those years ago. Having ridden out enough
band-orientated storms to sink pretty much any ship, he has emerged as provisional leader and main contributor to the music of BRML.
Quite frankly if he hadn't written songs or lyrics he would have been out a long time ago... He uses a black Epiphone SG300,
soon to be modified with Kent Armstrong Motherbuckers at the bridge, with Digitech
RP200 Multi-fx and Boss Super Feedbacker+Distortion "Mofofier" Pedals. He makes his chosen brand of feedback-like noise through a 100W Marshall MGDFX Combo.
Rob W
Rob Wallace makes bass feel like dirty dirty good dirty sex.
He is also a grade 8 standard classically trained singer,
and his voice regularly competes with hundreds of watts worth of amps.
He's a Brown belt in Karate and has reached various
levels in several other martial arts, as well as developing his own technique,
making him by far
the most dangerous member of Barbie Ruined My Life. He's also incredibly strong. Rob adds
the much needed air of distinction to Rob Sear's sometimes "untamed" song arrangements. His incredible bass
hooks in songs such as Rose-Tinted and You'll Never Learn... add to the
crowd-pleasing stomp-tastic choruses in a way no-one else could or should. He uses a black Squier p-bass fitted with
custom machineheads and Seymour Duncan Basslines pick-ups, and plays 5-string bass riffs on a four string bass.
He makes noise through a 60W Peavy KB60 and occasionally uses a
Digitech BP200 Multi-FX. Rob - the best damn bassist this side of Flea.
